About the Exhibit

Every week, we display photos taken within the Driftless Area by people just like you. The Driftless Area is a region of the Midwest known for its unique geography. Grab your camera and help us show off the scenes that we lovingly call home. We look forward to sharing the experience with our web visitors! If your photo is selected, it will be featured for an entire week on decorahbank.com/.

Submission Criteria

We’re looking for photos that represent life in the Driftless Area. Before you grab your camera, consider these requirements to increase the chances of your photo being selected.

• Every photo should be taken within the Driftless Area. For a map, click here.
• Due to our website capabilities, please submit only a horizontal view.
• Black & white, or full color photos are fine with us!
• Formats must be either JPG, PNG or TIFF.
• Size must be at least 2560 x 1920 and can be up to 10MB.
• We will accept one photo submission per person per week.

Of course there are a few things we will not show…

• Imagery that’s obscene, racist or objectifying to any person
• Copyrighted material
• Anything that contains personally identifiable information

Photo Tips

The possibilities are endless! The opportunity awaits you to bring out your creative and artistic side. Here are a few basic photography tips to help you take a beautiful photo.

• Framing your Photo – Consider the foreground, middle and background of your image while using lines and curves to fully fill the frame when composing your photo.
• Use the light – Set the mood in your photo by creating depth with shadows, or highlighting your subject with the natural light that surrounds you.
• Outdoor photography – Light is softer and more vivid in the early morning or evening hours. Shooting with the light behind you (front light) is great for serene landscapes or photographing people, while back light or side light can offer more dramatic landscapes and silhouettes.
• Point of View – Tell a story with your photo, whether you position yourself on the same level as the subject to get a direct shot, or go for the artistry of angles with an indirect point of view.
• The clearer, the better – Set your resolution as high as possible on your camera.
• Most importantly have fun with it!
