Brett Van Sloten, financial advisor

Former Decorah resident is new to the Bank, but not new to financial planning

June 6, 2019 – Decorah & Cresco – Brett Van Sloten recently joined Decorah Bank & Trust as a financial advisor. Brett is a 2009 Decorah High School Graduate. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a B.A. in 2013. While attending the U of I, Brett was a football student-athlete and served as an active I-Club liaison for the College.

Meet the new guy

When we asked Brett to compare some of the lessons he learned in college football with those of being a financial advocate for people; without pause, he stated that it’s all about having the desire to build relationships and offer solutions for people. Brett said, “First, I have to fully hold myself accountable, by that I need to be one hundred percent focused on helping people (and team) reach their vision. It’s a big deal to me personally.”

In good company

Justin Gullekson, Tracy Dostal, Jason Soland, Julie Luzum, and a full-time support team assists Brett in his mission to help people accumulate, preserve, and transfer their wealth. Over 80 Bank employees are also at the ready to assist customers.

It’s a family affair

Brett and his wife, Samantha (Cuvelier) are moving from northwest Iowa, where he had a great working experience with an organization as a financial advisor. Samantha also grew up in Decorah and is educated as an elementary school teacher. Brett’s father, Doug Van Sloten, works as an ag & business banker at the Bank.

In his free time, Brett enjoys playing and watching golf and football and being outdoors with family and friends.
