Eco efforts of the bank were officially recognized on February 8, 2007.  Below is the Board of Directors Resolution.  Soon after “Sustainability” was added as a core value of the company to promote the importance of the quest.  You will see the company’s Vision and Core Values prominently displayed in the lobby of Decorah Bank.

 

Board of Directors Resolution

The long term future of Decorah Bank & Trust, Cresco Bank & Trust and the communities they serve are dependent on environmental sustainability.

Be it resolved that Decorah Bank and Cresco Bank will take all reasonable steps toward becoming environmentally sustainable from this time forward.

2007 Carbon footprint study results in pledge to improve
In September 2007 we completed a study done to tell us how much carbon dioxide we contribute by doing business.  We have set a goal of finding 10 ways to reduce our carbon emission numbers by the end of 2008.

ENERGY STAR Award Recipient
Decorah Bank has earned the ENERGY STAR award.  And is one of only 3200 recipients in the nation.  ENERGY STAR is a dynamic government/industry partnership that offers businesses and consumers energy-efficient solutions, making it easy to save money while protecting the environment for future generations. New Building Construction
Decorah Bank, built in 2005; Cresco Bank, affiliate of Decorah Bank, built in 2006

Features of new buildings include:
  • Recyclable metal roof material
  • Soy-based foam insulation
  • High efficiency lighting
  • Occupancy-sensing lighting
  • Automatic plumbing fixtures
  • Recycled tile
  • Computerized set-back heating, ventilating, and air conditioning
  • Durable concrete vs. oil based asphalt parking lot
  • Furnishings selected based on renewable materials and green manufacturing practices
  • Efficient geothermal heating/cooling system in new Cresco Bank facility in 2006
  • Solar panels on drive-through center, built in July 2008, installed to offset a portion of energy usage.

  • Offsetting electrical usage through voluntary participation in Alliant Second Nature program

  • Selecting ENERGY STAR rated computer equipment and appliances
  • Older equipment is donated for re-use
  • Eco-friendly cleaning solutions used in building maintenance
  • Recycling destroyed documents, packing material, beverage containers
  • Electronic daily internal reports vs. paper
  • Encouraging the use of e-statements over paper and mail

  • Sign up for tree-free eStatements in lieu of paper statements
  • Reduce paper usage and improve efficiency with high interest FREE eChecking.
  • Take advantage of Decorah Bank’s ATM Network as an alternative to traveling to bank’s facilities to transact business.
  • Telephone Banking, Internet Banking and Bill Pay Services are free, encouraging customers to use alternative methods of tracking finances.
