The grant, which is effective March 15, 2012, is part of FHLB Des Moines Rural Homeownership Fund (RHF) that supports homeownership opportunities for families and individuals in rural communities.
Students at five area high schools are taking part in a new financial literacy education program with support from a web-based, e-learning platform. The platform, powered by EverFi, Inc., employs the latest in new media technologies – adaptive-pathing, 3D gaming, social networking, online animations, video and messaging tools – to bring complex financial concepts to life. Through the EverFi platform, students can increase their financial acumen and earn certification in more than 600 finance-related topics.

Decorah Bank & Trust’s $10,000 donation will pay for permeable pavers that will enhance design and use of the new Water Street Park. Permeable pavers are an alternative to traditional outdoor pavers where water can filter through the surface to the underlying soil and drainage system. Rain water would otherwise puddle on the surface and run down the parking lot collecting pollutants, essentially destroying the quality of water runoff.
